INTUITION COURSE Surf Gods
LOCATION REPORT Cribby's Comment "Brandon Bay has hosted three Professional World Tour wave sailing championships and countless Irish and UK events. On its day it is as good or better than any other wave sailing location in Europe, but generally it is just an awesome easy going wave sailing location, with particularly friendly wave riding conditions with miles of sandy beach to ensure nothing can go very wrong! Clear green Atlantic Ocean swells roll gently into the bay, where Ireland's second and third highest mountains meet them on the beaches, providing the most scenic wave sailing back drop this side of Hawaii and my favourite windsurfing place on earth. This was my home for seven years from the mid '90s and in many ways where I honed my wave sailing skills- so I know Brandon Bay extremely well which makes a huge difference to making the right call at the right time as to where and when to sail. The Swansea to Cork ferry makes travel from the UK extremely easy going and there's flights in from all over Europe. Please try and join me for the windsurfing thrill of your life, classic Irish hospitality and Guinness and some of the best scenery in Ireland. Everybody loves Brandon Bay!"
LOCATION MOVIE INtuition Surf Gods in Ireland
WIND From Atlantic low pressure systems. Mostly side shore from the left.
WIND STATISTICS We get in the water literally everyday either surfing or wave sailing, the passed two years have been epic! Reliably windy throughout the Autumn and not too cold!
SEA STATE Breaking waves onto sandy beach. Or in the rare event that Mossies is breaking, waves over a reef. Incredible Atlantic storms and light shows.
SAILING AREA Brandon Bay and surrounding area basically caters for wave sailing in every wind and swell direction. 90% of the time we'll stay in Brandon Bay frequenting the perfect down-the-line wave riding spot called Gowlane, or the side shore jumping and riding locations of Stoney Gap or Dumps, and if we're lucky the wind goes to the north or north west and we can sail Mossies reef break- acclaimed for providing rides with 25 bottom turns and as Robby Naish said, Europe's Hookipa. Mostly it is sandy beaches with no shorebreak and no rips making it very safe for all levels.
WETSUITS Oh yes, but not as bad as you might think. In a SW wind, a short arm suit is usually fine, however a bring a winter suit too in case it goes Northerly or Easterly. No boots or hoods necessary.
